Nomenclatural remarks on Carex sect. Sylvaticae (Cyperaceae): C. laxula and related names

2018

Our taxonomic and nomenclatural research reveals that the name ‘Carex laxula Tineo ex Boott’ (section Sylvaticae) has not been validly published. Consequently, the oldest available name for the species is Carex paui Sennen. A lectotype for the valid name Carex sylvatica var. laxula Tineo ex Guss. is here designated.

Xanastur (brachiopoda, stringocephalacea) nomen novum pro Xana García-Alcalde, 1972 (non Xana kurdjumov, 1917, hymenoptera, hexapoda)

2021

Garcia-Alcalde (1972) proposed the new genus Xana (type species Xana bubo Garcia-Alcalde, 1972) for a terebratulid brachiopod included in the superfamily Stringocephalacea from the Lower Devonian of the Cantabrian Mountains (Northwestern Spain). In an email message sent on April 3, 2018, the entomologist Dr. Eduardo I. Faundez, from the Patagonia Institute, Magallanes University, Chile, warned the author that Xana was a name previously used by Kurdjumov (1917) for a hymenopteran genus. Xana Garcia-Alcalde, 1972 would be so a later homonym of Xana Kurdjumov, 1917. In accordance with articles 52.3, 52.4, 53.2, 60.3 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) (2000), it is prop…

On the status of <i>Statice dianiae</i> Pau (<i>Plumbaginaceae</i>)

1997

An apomictic Limonium with a single pollen-stigma combination (B type), Limonium interjectum , is proposed as a new species to replace the invalid name Statice dianiae Pau. The new species has a restricted distribution on the sea costs of eastern Spain (Alicante Province). It shows a striking morphological similarity to L. virgatum (Willd.) Fourr. and L. girardianum (Guss.) Girard; on this basis it is suggested that L. interjectum is a hybrid derived from the two species.

Re-description of Orchestia stephenseni Cecchini, 1928: designation of neotype and senior synonym to Orchestia constricta A. Costa, 1853 (Crustacea: …

2016

The beach flea Orchestia stephenseni was originally described by Cecchini (1928), and successively by Karaman (1973). The description of this species will be herein revised by focusing on the variation of the g nathopod 2 in males, as detected during its growth period. An analysis of DNA Barcoding was performed to support the assignment of the taxonomic species to five morphotypes. As the type specimen has not yet been designated, a neotype is assigned. The name of the species is here presented as a valid name as it satisfies the requirements of a Reversal of the Principle of Priority: Orchestia stephenseni takes precedence over the objective synonym Orchestia constricta A. Costa, 1853, in …

2016

The subfamily Cylapinae (Insecta, Heteroptera: Miridae) from India is reviewed. Three tribes, seven genera and nineteen species are cited from the country, keyed and described. Six species are described as new: Fulvius kadapaensis sp. nov., Peritropis kodava sp. nov., Peritropis pathaki sp. nov., Peritropis sangai sp. nov., Peritropis yasunagai sp. nov. and Rhinomiris prathapani sp. nov. A new synonymy is published: Peritropis lewisi (Distant, 1904) (valid name) = Peritropis indicus Gorczyca, 2006b (new junior subjective synonym).

Review of the genusiLanchnophorus/i(Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae) with description of three new species and other nomenclatural changes.

2017

The generic name Lanchnophorus Reuter, 1887, deemed for a long time to be unavailable as incorrect original spelling of Lachnophorus (in fact Lachnophorus Distant, 1903 is an unjustified emendation of the former), is restored as a valid name of the genus. Lachnesthus Bergroth, 1915, syn. nov. (new name for the preoccupied Lachnophorus Distant, 1903) is considered junior synonym of Lanchnophorus. The following nomenclatural changes are proposed: Lanchnophorus flavus (Scudder, 1971) comb. nov. = Lachnesthus chinai Scudder, nomen nudum; Lanchnophorus guttulatus Reuter, 1887, comb. restit. = Lachnophorus albidomaculatus Distant, 1913, syn. nov. = Lachnesthus rodriguezensis China, 1925, syn. nov…
